Frequently Asked Questions
PROCESS & TIMELINE
Q: How long does the design process take?
Our process includes several phases of design. From the initial meeting to groundbreaking, the full process can realistically take 8 months to a year. While it's possible to move faster, we strongly recommend engaging us early so we can develop the best design, assemble the right team, and thoughtfully resolve the details.
Q: How far in advance should we contact you before we want to build?
We recommend reaching out about 12 months before your ideal construction start date. Quality design takes time, and the best contractors are often booked far in advance. The earlier we start, the smoother your project will run
Q: Can we start with just one part of the yard and add on later?
Yes. We often design master plans that can be implemented in phases. This ensures the entire space functions cohesively, even if you build it over time.
BUDGET & COSTS
Q: How much does a typical project cost?
Our projects generally range from $300,000 to $1M+ in construction costs. Final cost depends on scope, materials, complexity, and site conditions. We work with you to align the design with your goals and investment.
Q: What’s the minimum budget we should have?
Clients should be prepared to invest around 20% of their home’s construction value into the landscape. While this isn’t a hard requirement, it reflects where we’re seeing project budgets land in today’s market.
Q: What do your design fees cover?
Our fees cover everything from establishing a creative vision to developing beautiful, scaled schematic plans that reflect the artistic heart of our studio. We produce detailed construction documents, assemble a team of trusted trades, and oversee the build—managing schedules, vendors, invoices, and on-site challenges to ensure your project is executed true to the design.
SCOPE & EXPERTISE
Q: What’s the difference between a landscape designer and a landscape architect?
We are a landscape architecture studio—not a design studio. Our team has completed intensive education and training in both design and technical site planning. That means we don’t just make things look good—we think about how they’re built, how they function, and how to coordinate with the full team needed to bring it to life. Our work is rooted in artistry, but backed by the skill to take on complex, high-level projects.
Q: Do you only do planting plans?
No. We design the entire exterior environment—from pools, spas, patios, and walls to lighting, grading, and planting. Our role is to lead the site planning and design across all trades, ensuring everything works in harmony.
Q: Do you only do residential projects?
While we started our business focused on high-end residential projects, we also have experience designing non-residential spaces. This includes select cultural, hospitality, and boutique commercial work. Please visit our portfolio to see some of the projects we’ve had the opportunity to design.
